父の形見の菊花石の硯です。

父が元気だった頃からこれが欲しくて、「他には何も要らないから、これをちょうだい。」と父にお願いしていましたが「お父さんが生きてる間はあげられない。」と断られていました。

それが、ある日急に「持って帰っていいよ。」と父が言ってくれたので‥私は大事に大事に（この重たい硯を）胸に抱いて博多から東京の自宅まで持ち帰ってきました。

父が当時思っていたほどこの硯に価値があるとは思えませんが、父が大切にしていた宝物には違いありません。

大切な父の形見、今は私の宝物です。

A keepsake from my father

This is a Kikuka stone inkstone that was a keepsake from my father.

I wanted this since my father was still healthy, and I asked him, “I don’t need anything else, so please give it to me.” But he refused, saying, “I can’t give it to you while you’re alive.”

Then, one day, my father suddenly said, “You can take it home.” So I carefully carried it (this heavy inkstone) to my chest and brought it back from Hakata to my home in Tokyo.

I don’t think this inkstone is as valuable as my father thought it was back then, but it was definitely a treasure that he treasured.

A precious keepsake from my father, now my treasure.
